Despicable Me Inspired Newborn Accessories: CROCHET PATTERN

I have been working on a couple of special sets of newborn photo props this week.  These adorable sets are for a long-lost nursing school friend of mine who is expecting TWINS in December.... HOW EXCITING IS THAT!?  

These little Minion hats & diaper covers are absolutely too cute, and are a straight-forward pattern that I came up with.  The suspense must be killing you, so here it is:




Newborn Minion Hat & Diaper Cover





Supplies:

-Size 5.5mm Crochet Hook
-Black, Yellow, White yarn in Medium weight (I used  Loops & Threads Impeccable)
-Blunt Needle for sewing parts together
-Black Button (for eye)


Hat

Using Yellow


Magic Ring. Ch 2.

Row 1: 11 DC in Ring. Join with slst. Ch 2.
Row 2: 2 DC in each DC around. Join with slst. Ch 2.
Row 3: 2 DC in first DC, 1 DC in second DC.  Repeat around. Join with slst. Ch 2.
Row 4: 2 DC in first DC, 1 DC in next 11 DC.  Repeat around. Join with slst. Ch 2.
Row 5-9: 1 DC in each around. Join with slst. Ch 2. Fasten off last row after last DC (skip Ch 2). 


Band

Using Black


Ch 44. Turn.
Row 1: Skip first Ch. HDC in each Ch across. Ch 1.
Row 2: HDC in each Ch across. Fasten off.


Eye

Using White


Magic Ring.  Ch 2.
Row 1: 11 DC in ring. Join with slst. Add black.  Join with slst. Ch 1.
Row 2: 2 SC in first DC, 1 SC in next DC.  Repeat around. Join with slst. Fasten off.

Sew in all ends. Sew parts together to resemble Minion.  Add large black button on the centre of the eye.

For the mouth, I used this stitch.  This makes a nice, solid line.







Diaper Cover


Using Yellow


Ch 46.
Row 1-3: Skip first Ch. DC in each Ch to end.  Ch 2. Turn.
Row 4: Slst in first 12 DC. Ch 2.  DC in each of next 20 DC. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 5-7: DC in each across.  Ch 2. Turn.
Row 8: DCtog. DC in next 16 st. DCtog. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 9: DCtog. DC in next 14 st. DCtog. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 10: DCtog. DC in next 12 st. DCtog. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 11-14: Dc in each across. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 15: 2 DC in first st. DC in next 12. 2 DC in last st. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 16: 2 DC in first st. DC in next 14. 2 DC in last st. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 17: 2 DC in first st. DC in next 16. 2 DC in last st. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 18: 2 DC in first st. DC in next 18. 2 DC in last st. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 19: 1 DC in each across. Fasten off. 

Add Black to any corner

SC around the entire diaper cover, doing 3 SC in each corner.  Fasten off. Sew in all ends.

Add Button to fasten diaper cover.  Place the button in the centre of the front:
